New.. uh... Plans!

So I realize I haven't updated in over a month, and I have a large Santa Claus-like bag of excuses, but I'll skip over the boring stuff. In a pitiful attempt to make up for it, I've secretly put my old comic, Jack Hates You (2002), up on my main site. One of my currently project ideas is to revive it! (Oh boy!)

My current project (ideas):
  • Inspiration Blog (Started!)
  • Revive Miyako-Jurai, my sister's fan character (Started!)
  • This year's "Other Easter" commission (Only in research phase..)
  • Year-old doggie commission (I swear I still intend to draw your beautiful collie!)
  • Revive Jack Hates You (Planning stages begun!)
This of course takes time, drive, energy, and focus. I find these are things more easily obtainable by having an audience, feedback, a back-and-forth, an occasional nagging "what have you drawn lately?", fans, artist buddies, etc. So, if you're here, leave a comment! Say hi! I take requests and all that!

... Whoo. ... Okay. ... Well hopefully more updates soon to follow. Thanks, folks!

PS- I wanna take a moment to point out that all of my digital painting thus far has been on Photoshop, on a tablet and a monitor-- not a fancy Cintiq. I only recently found out the current price of those see-what-you're-drawing-where-you're-drawing-it (intuitive!) tablets, which is sadly still out of my price range. I did experiment with one for a day, and yeah, they're pretty awesome. End rant.

January 2013: WIP Druid

Working on a digital painting of a druid. Here's a progression between 40 minutes in to just about 2 hours in. Still a work in progress.

2013: Manticore

Welcome to 2013! Whoo! We made it!

First drawing assignment of the new year: a mythological creature. I wanted to choose something that isn't super well-known or traditionally "lovely". I chose the manticore and fell in love with the version drawn by Mr. Madrigal. I'm not sure why I opted out of a very cartoony style this time around; probably because I like the idea of the old-fashioned European drawing style, similar to the works of Fuseli. I thought about what kind of human head would be (proportionally) placed atop a lion's body. A lion is a man, so traditionally it would be a masculine head... Being a creature, it won't be getting haircuts or face waxing... and lions aren't usually known to be incredibly mild-tempered.

Anyway... Notebook brainstorming.
Final version: graphite.

2012 Notebook Doodles Pt. 2

More doodles to share from my spiral-bound notebook....

Piggie! (Piggie loves the Academy of Sciences.)

Creepy little girl and random spacey chick.

Futurama's Turanga Leela in a really uninspired pose. (I may try drawing her again at some point.)

And my personal favorite, Kitty in a dinosaur costume!

2012 Notebook Doodles Pt. 1

Towards the end of 2012, I was feeling nostalgic about when I used to sit in class and doodle on my notebook paper. I did some amazing drawings back in those days. To bring back that feeling, I bought a silly spiral-bound notebook for doodles. Here are some of them:

Straight from a cheapo Bic pen, drawn in an IHOP... Of course I need to start with a kitty.

... before moving forward with a rather busty T-Rex (who happens to enjoy singing opera).

Next up, in homage to my years playing story-telling RPG's...

... And part two on its way.

2012 Unfinished Art Dump

I realize I left out a couple of things from my 2012 sketchbook, mainly just unfinished junk. For those who are interested....

... cupcake watercolors...

... colored pencil archer fawn sketch...

...general art dump, including crayon UI ideas and pencil/ink character sketches...

... and a very unfinished Krampus.
